Connect with Authentic German Learning and other German learners via WhatsApp!
There are two WhatsApp groups you can join:
Authentic German Learning Fan Group
There is the AGL Fan Group for German learners like you, come and join us!
This group is very lightly moderated. It’s a safe environment for all German learners to talk about their progress, share ideas and tips, ask questions, discuss and most importantly, have fun together while learning German.
Unfortunately, I don’t have time to check in every day so you won’t always get an answer from me if you ask a question there. This is a place where German learners discuss amongst themselves. If you want guidance from me, you should check out the Academy. You see, as a paying member, you can also join the Premium WhatsApp Group and get detailed answers from me whenever you post a question.
Have you made sure you read the rules below? Then put in your email address below to join the WhatsApp group and have fun learning German!

The Rules of the Fan Group
Moderating a group and creating a safe environment for German learners is not always easy. To show you what kind of community we want to be, I have created these rules. People who don’t even read them (and thereby demonstrate they don’t care about our community) won’t even be able to join.
So please read the rules. Thanks!
- Introduce yourself.
By inserting your email below, you will receive an invite to join the group.
In order to prevent spam, I need you to introduce yourself in a private message to me.
Once you do, I will add you to the fan group and you can introduce yourself there as well. - Always write in German.
The only exception: If you can’t ask or answer in German, you can write in English about the German language. - Don’t harass.
You’re not allowed to send private messages to other group members unless asked or if you had a prior relationship with the person. If someone does it to you, please send me a screenshot and I will ban that member. - Be respectful.
Treat everyone in the group with respect. No sexist or demeaning jokes. - Say something meaningful.
What is a question you’re pondering? What did you learn recently? How was your vacation? Which resources are helping you the most? We want to know!
Feel free to share as much as you like. Don’t worry, I’m a nice moderator – I want you to feel free to also write things that are just mildly interesting or meaningful.
Political content is okay, but only if it’s also furthering language education, i.e. instead of “Vote X!”, write a text in German explaining your reasons why you think X is a good idea. If someone has gone to the effort of writing out arguments, criticize the ideas, not the person.
It’s okay to greet people once in a while, but in my opinion phrases like “Hallo!”, “Guten Tag!”, “Wie geht’s?”, “Gut, und dir?” just get boring after a while. I point this out because I think some German learners rely on these phrases too much and tell themselves they practiced German; they don’t go out of their comfort zone and don’t even use different greeting phrases. Which leads us to: - Get out of your comfort zone!
This group is for active participants, not lurkers.
I know, it can sometimes be hard to write in a foreign language, especially when you think you are making many mistakes. No problem, you won’t get any negative judgment in this group. It’s okay to make mistakes and they help us learn, after all.
This group depends on the participation of German learners like you. So go ahead and write something or even share audio of yourself speaking German! No sweet without sweat.
Violation of the first 3 rules leads to an immediate ban from the group. I might change the rules in the future; then I will post a link to this page in the group.
Join the regular WhatsApp Group
This is a protected space, so you won’t get in unless you read the rules.
