Dies ist eine witzige Redewendung, finde ich. Man sagt, jemand riskiert eine dicke Lippe, wenn er frech ist, wenn er dreist ist, wenn er keck ist.This is a funny phrase, I think. People say that someone risked a fat lip when he’s cheeky, when he is bold.

Ich denke, „frech“ und seine Synonyme sind schwer zu übersetzen. Auf Englisch würde man vielleicht sagen: „cheeky“.I think “frech” and its synonyms are difficult to translate. In English we might say “cheeky”.

Jemand ist frech, wenn er oder sie dem Gesprächspartner keinen Respekt zollt und gesellschaftliche Normen verletzt. Man kann es übrigens auch positiv gebrauchen. Wenn man flirtet, ist man vielleicht ein bisschen frech.Someone is bold, if he or she does not pay the other party respect and violates social norms. One can also use it positively, by the way. Zurück zur Redewendung. Jemand, der eine dicke Lippe riskiert, ist frech im negativen Sinne. Er ist unhöflich und provoziert seine Mitmenschen.Back to the idiom. Someone who risks a thick lip is bold in the negative sense. He is rude and provokes his fellow men.
