  1. Lies aufmerksam.Read carefully.
     • Bereite dich vor.Prepare yourself.
     • Sei dir bewusst, wenn du etwas nicht verstehst.Be aware when you don’t understand something.
     • Formuliere Thesen um. So stellst du sicher, dass du sie verstanden hast.Rephrase theses. This is how you make sure you understand them.
     • Mache dir Notizen in einem Notizbuch und im Buch.Take notes in a notebook and in the book.
       • “Der Stift wird dann das Zeichen Ihrer Aufmerksamkeit, während Sie lesen.”“The pen then becomes the sign of your attention while you read.”
       • “Sie werden feststellen, dass Ihr Verständnis jedes Buches enorm gesteigert wird, wenn Sie sich nur die Mühe machen, seine wichtigsten Wörter zu finden, ihre wechselnden Bedeutungen zu identifizieren und sich [mit dem Autor] auf Begriffe zu einigen [“come to terms”]. Selten hat eine so kleine Veränderung der Gewohnheit eine so große Wirkung.”“You will find that your understanding of any book will be greatly increased if you just make the effort to find its most important words, identify their changing meanings, and come to terms with [the author].”. Rarely does such a small change in habit have such a big impact."
  2. Urteile fair.Judge fairly.
     • Urteile fair und urteile nicht, bevor du nicht die Argumente (oder den Protagonisten) verstanden hast.Judge fairly and do not judge until you understand the arguments (or the protagonist).
  3. Lies Geschichten schnell.Read stories quickly.

  4. Trau dich, schwierige Bücher zu lesen.Dare to read difficult books.
     • Welche Bücher können dir jetzt helfen?Which books can help you now?
     • Welche Bücher reizen dich?Which books appeal to you?
     • Tausche dich mit anderen aus! (Du kannst mich ruhig als Freund auf Goodreads hinzufügen.)Exchange ideas with others! (Feel free to add me as a friend on Goodreads.)
  5. Werde aktiv.Get active.
     • Angenommen, folgende Dinge sind passiert:Suppose the following things happened:
       1. Du willst ein bestimmtes Ziel erreichen.You want to achieve a specific goal.
       2. Der Autor argumentiert dafür, dass man eine bestimmte Handlung ausführen muss, um das Ziel zu erreichen.The author argues that one must perform a certain action in order to achieve the goal.
       3. Die Argumentation des Autors ist schlüssig und ergibt Sinn.The author’s argument is coherent and makes sense.
     • … dann musst du handeln!… then you have to act!
• Ich habe auch eine längere Rezension und Zusammenfassung geschrieben, falls du die Ausdauer dafür hast. 😅I also wrote a longer review and summary if you have the stamina for it. 😅
