Wenn etwas sehr Unerwartetes passiert, wenn etwas passiert, womit du nicht rechnest, wenn etwas passiert, dass du nicht für möglich gehalten hättest, dann bist du überrascht.When something happens very unexpected, when something happens, that you were not counting on, when something happens that you had not thought possible, then you’re surprised.

Über … rascht! Hast du das erwartet? Hast du damit gerechnet? Wenn nicht, dann warst du überrascht. Du hast dich vielleicht sogar erschrocken. Na, ich hoffe, ich habe dich nicht erschrocken, besonders wenn du gerade mit dem Auto fährst!Sur … prised! Did you expect this? Did you expect that? If not, then you were surprised. You may have even been scared. Well, I hope I have not scared you, especially if you’re driving a car right now! ?

Überrascht zu sein und sich zu erschrecken ist aber nicht dasselbe. Wenn du dich erschrickst, dann bist du überrascht.
